Welcome to my C-NOTES Blog dedicated to banishing soul-sucking burnout. I invite you into my life as I share the RAW & REAL TRUTHS of my “Workaholic to Wellness” journey from over 20 years as an executive in the 24/7 luxury hotel industry. Follow along for stories full of wisdom, smarts & heart on how to get the results you want & the fulfillment you deserve at today’s accelerated pace of change.
Burnout is real! My hope is to build hunger for change. My intent is to raise awareness & fuel a dialogue that encourages, inspires & supports global executives to burnout-proof their business, team & life by growing their health, happiness & the bottom line.
kicking ass & taking names at business & life
I know there are a lot of amazing warriors out there in different stages of your lives & careers, who are striving to balance relationships, jobs, families, build connection & community, face illnesses & grieve losses, while navigating yourself through what can feel like an endless cycle of over commitment, exhaustion & stress.
You get out of bed each morning, put on a brave face & power your way through life, day after day, year after year. You do what you have to do because you are a doer. It is what it is as you are not a quitter. You care for others first & put yourself last as the guilt of being selfish eats you alive. You want to live a healthier & happier life & have tried to make changes, yet it feels overwhelming & you don’t even know where to begin.
The kicker? You lead a corporation, own your own business, direct a global division, manage multi-million-dollar budgets, etc. & you’ re good at it. You make critical, game-changing decisions & execute sophisticated strategies with multiple constituents daily, yet cannot seem to do the same for yourself when it comes to maintaining a work-life balance.
Let’s face it; we are all struggling, to different degrees, in all professions, to take back our energy & maintain a healthy work-life blend. Not being able to do so, time & again, can ignite a defeating dialogue in your head that sparks self-doubt & fuels your fear of failure. Soon your stress leads to sleepless nights & endless bowls of chips, guacamole & margaritas not to mention late night chats over martinis & cigarettes (UGH!) where you make heartfelt, yet empty promises to work less, exercise & sleep more once everything slows down & you get caught up.
Well, “someday” is not a day of the week & before you know it, you can’t feel your life or fit into any of your clothes. You’re a fun, positive, compassionate person who starts to become someone you’re not – impatient, grumpy, moody, frustrated, pessimistic, detached, fuzzy-minded, angry… (and those are just a few early & subtle signs of chronic stress & burnout.)
Sound familiar? You’ re not alone!
High achievers who want to make a difference in the world & aren’t afraid of hard work or doing whatever it takes to make things happen, are at the most risk for burning out. The passion you have for what you do often enables you to ignore that you are working exceptionally long hours & taking on an exceedingly heavy workload while setting high expectations to excel.
You want to do great work & live a great life, yet it truly feels impossible. You learned a long time ago that sacrifice is the price you must pay for success. Well, I call B.S! I used to believe that & ended up on the HIGHWAY TO BURNOUT HELL. But now, PEACEFUL, YET POWERFUL is how I roll.
During my transformation from “Workaholic to Wellness,” I learned a few tricks & secret formulas that can banish burnout for good & will forever change how you show up for yourself & others. It’s possible to kick ass & take names at both business & life without sacrificing any well-being & I’m now on a mission to encourage & inspire seasoned & emerging executives to change how you are living, leading & succeeding!
burnout is real. Kick it to the curb!
BURNOUT IS REAL & is escalating into an epidemic. If the signs & hazards of it are not on your personal & professional radar, adjust your antennae! If any of this is resonating, you may already be on the road to burn out. Are people on your team burning out on your watch?
There is a lot of denial & judgment out there & it can be tough to ask for help, especially if you are a boss. What I needed when I burned out was support & actionable wisdom, truth & hope to get me through to the other side. Even as Badass Warriors, we all need HUGS (encouragement & inspiration) to give us strength, KICKS (tough love) to move us forward & HOPE (new goals) to fire up our resilience.
C-NOTE: The most important thing I know with absolute certainty is that no one succeeds alone. Find your words to ask for the help you need & then find someone to support you on your journey & help hold you accountable. Asking for help is heroic & shows great strength.
I’m proof that change is possible & that you can find balance, do your best work & live your best life as your true self. If you hang out with me too long, you’ll soon believe you are unstoppable & start achieving your wildest dreams.
Follow along for my C-NOTES full of funny & humbling truths & powerful insights on how to grow your health, happiness & bottom line with your sleep, sanity & sense of humor intact.
Let’s start a dialogue & create more awareness around the “subtle to ultimate” signs of burnout, so more executives will banish it from their business culture & life.
With smarts & heart, C
